GMIS Connect - Trieste "Powering Sustainable Manufacturing: The Rise of Green Hydrogen", the Roadshow of the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit organized by UNIDO and the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technologies of the United Arab Emirates (MoIAT), was held on 14th November 2023 at the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region headquarters in Trieste, Italy.

The event — organized in collaboration with the FVG Region, UNIDO ITPO Italy, Confindustria, World Trade Center Trieste, University of Trieste, National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS), the International Foundation of Trieste (FIT), and The Laboratory on Quantitative Sustainability (TLQS) — brought together thought leaders, government officials, and industry experts from Italy and the United Arab Emirates to highlight the opportunities in decarbonising the manufacturing sector and the role of green hydrogen in powering sustainable manufacturing.

The conference opened with the welcome remark of the FVG Regional Minister for Environmental Defense, Energy and Sustainable Development H.E. Fabio Scoccimarro: “I would like to stress the conviction and commitment of this Region to invest in green hydrogen not as utopian panacea, but as useful and essential component of such climate action portfolio that all together, European and non-Europeans countries, public and private sector, we must implement to achieve what I believe to be our shared goal: to continue to have a performing industrial sector, and at the same time to develop an environment-friendly manufacturing that we morally must pass down to our future generations.”

UNIDO ITPO Italy’s Head Ms. Diana Battaggia commented during her speech: “As the Italian Investment and Technology Promotion Office of UNIDO, we are proud to collaborate in order to facilitate and promote a global dialogue on sustainable manufacturing and the transformative possibilities of green hydrogen. Our aim is to encourage partnerships and knowledge sharing between Italian stakeholders and international key actors by serving as a catalyst and facilitator.”

On the sidelines of GMIS Connect Trieste, on the day before and after, UNIDO ITPO Italy also took part with several of the stakeholders involved in site visits to local research centres and companies also operating in the field of energy and hydrogen, namely Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and Faber Industries.
